The German punk band Madsen hails from the little village of Clenze (2308 residents), a village with 28 subdivisions.

Clenze is in the county of Lüchow-Dannenberg, the easternmost county of the state of Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) and the smallest county in all of Germany.

Lüchow-Dannenberg was originally two Slavic states that lost their independence in the beginning of the 14th century.

The county’s main source of income is agriculture and tourism. It is considered “economically challenged.”

A controversial disposal place for radioactive waste was established in the small town of Gorleben. Gorleben has been the site of clashes between the police and protesters since the 1970s.
